Where Muscadine Grapes May Be Planted
Muscadine grapes are generally adapted to the Southeastern quadrant of the United States , cold climates being the limiting factor. A temperature of zero degrees Fahrenheit usually severely damages Muscadine grape plants. MUSCADINE GRAPES MUST BE PLANTED IN FULL SUNLIGHT. Any degree of shade will reduce yields in direct ratio to the amount of shade. Planting on well-drained, fertile upland is preferred. Planting on bottom land encourages too much vegetative growth causing vines to cast off the fruit crop. Usually heavy soils will produce fruit with superior quality and light soils will produce more tonnage. < Back
